Many times the support worker does not take the time to include the individual in the meal making process. Sad to say, I have heard it said, " no, it is quicker and easier to do it on my own". And this is through an agency that provides support on a one to one basis. The support worker is there for at least 6 hours. You start with asking the individual to help get things out of the refrigerator. Then you I entire them by giving them tastes of what the individual picked out to eat and you are cook with not "for" them. The results are amazing, independence can be very liberating and pride reinforcing!
I believe that everyone has something they excel at. Sometimes it just take a little dreaming to bring it to the surface.
